Tesco creates tool to gauge the greenness of its stores - Tesco gestaltet ein Tool um die Umweltverträglichkeit seiner Filialen zu messen

Tesco has developed a piece of software to evaluate how environmentally friendly the equipment it uses in stores is. Called the Environmental Design Tool, it has been created by Tesco's environmental design team in collaboration with consulting group PE INTERNATIONAL. The environmental modelling software provides an unbiased assessment of different materials and products.

GaBi supports the new ILCD data format - GaBi unterstützt das neue ILCD Datenformat

GaBi supports the new ILCD data format, developed in an international effort co-ordinated by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. The ILCD format will be available with the next release of the GaBi software.

GaBi unterstützt das neue ILCD Datenformat, welches im internationalen Rahmen entwickelt und vom Joint Research Centre (JRC) der Europäischen Kommission koordiniert wurde. Das ILCD-Datenformat ist mit dem nächsten GaBi Software-Release verfügbar.

Defizite bei der ökologischen Bewertung von Produkten aus Nachwachsenden Rohstoffen

Für den Bereich der stofflichen Nutzung gibt es eine Vielzahl von Nawaro-Produkten aus unterschiedlichsten Rohstoffen. Um zu bewerten, welche Anwendungen unter ökologischen Gesichtspunkten am vorteilhaftesten sind, braucht man konkrete Daten für die kompletten Lebenswege der verschiedenen Produkte. Um sie untereinander vergleichen zu können, müssen zudem einheitliche Bewertungsmethoden vorliegen. Die Politik benötigt eine solche belastbare und umfassende ökologische Bewertung von Nawaroprodukten als Entscheidungsgrundlage für ihre künftige Förderpolitik.

Vor diesem Hintergrund hatte der Beratungs- und IT-Dienstleisters PE INTERNATIONAL die Aufgabe, bereits existierende Studien daraufhin zu analysieren, ob sie für eine derartige vergleichende und umfassende Bewertung geeignet sind.

PE opens offices in India and China

Recently PE INTERNATIONAL opened two new offices focusing on the Indian and Chinese markets. PE offers the whole range of services through these new offices in both countries, with some focus on Energy Efficiency and CDM project development. Contracts with some of the largest companies in these countries are currently under discussion, involving sustainability consulting, Life Cycle Assessment, GaBi and SoFi solutions. PE can also directly support initiatives for capacity building on sustainability in each country.

Climate negotiations in Poland

Climate negotiators are gathered for December 1 to December 12 talks in the western city of Poznan, at The United Nations Climate Change Conference to push for a agreement on a new climate treaty by next December in Copenhagen to replace or extend the Kyoto Protocol after 2012.

Some delegates, negotiators and analysts attending the UN talks in Poznan have suggested that the financial crisis coupled with a change in US administration will require a scaling back in ambition for Copenhagen, such as agreement on a set of principles rather than a treaty.

ABN Amro bereitet eine weltweite SoFi Einführung vor

ABN Amro ist eine der größten Banken weltweit, die ihren Hauptsitz in den Niederlanden hat und erfolgreich ein Bewertungsprojekt für Europäische Niederlassungen mit Hilfe von SoFi durchgeführt hat. Im März soll eine weltweite Markteinführung vorbereitet werden. SoFi wurde für die Sammlung von Umweltdaten entsprechend der VFU Richtlinien für 150 weltweite Standorte verwendet. Eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Schlüsselindikatoren, kombiniert mit verschiedenen, vordefinierten Analysen, macht schnelles und effizientes Benchmarking, Monitoring und die Berichterstattung ökologischer Themen auf Standort-, Länder- und Unternehmensebene möglich.

Nationale Prüfungskommission Russlands empfiehlt SoFi

Die Nationale Ökologische Auditierungskommission Russlands sieht SoFi als das effektivste Instrument, die nachhaltige Entwicklung in Unternehmen landesweit zu forcieren. Auf der Ersten Interregionalen Konferenz über “Die Optimierung der ökologischen Auditierung in der Russischen Föderation“, die Ende Mai 2007 in Sibirien stattfand, wurde dieses Thema behandelt.

Update of the world-wide, unique electronics database, applicable for eco-design and the EuP Directive

Electronics is a field of continuous change and innovation. Products are available in numerous facets and shapes, using various electronic components and electric systems. A challenge for Life Cycle Assessment datasets – a challenge that PE INTERNATIONAL and LBP-GaBi (University of Stuttgart) have now met. The new electronics extension database is fully updating the existing version, known and implemented by our customers for many years.

The new electronics extension database facilitates modular modeling of almost any populated printed wiring board. It goes without saying that it also accounts for the requirements of WEEE, RoHS and EuP. You can choose from typical, average electronic components, characterised by name (e.g. SOT323), housing description (e.g. 0201, 1608 etc.), mass, size, pin number and lead free tag. You will also have access to various FR4 substrates, solder pastes (with lead and lead free), mechanical parts (such as shielding or connectors) and datasets for average assembly lines. Pre-defined exemplary models allow electronic boards to be modeled in a snap. In combination with our other databases, you can model and analyse entire electronic products conveniently and efficiently.

For those of you who want to delve into more detail, PE INTERNATIONAL also offers parametric models of semiconductors, TFT panels, connectors and other electronic components.

The new electronics database is also compatible with GaBi DfX, the software for compliance and sustainable product development.

Tesco enhances climate profile

Tesco had announced that it will take on the challenge of operating a low carbon business. This corporate target has been made clear by Sir Terry Leahy – Tesco’s CEO. Tesco’s goal is to reduce the carbon emissions of the company by 50% by 2020. To achieve this ambitious goal carbon footprint reduction must be incorporate in all business processes including the design of the stores. By setting up an agreed set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to be used by all interior design managers, the base for comparing different products has been established.
